Does anyone smile less in movies than Joaquin Phoenix? Heck no, and he's not about to start in Napoleon, either.

The second trailer for Ridley Scott's historical epic sees the stony-faced actor waging wars and deadpanning one-liners in his role as the famous French military commander of the Revolutionary Wars.

Napoleon also stars Vanessa Kirby as Empress Josephine, Catherine Walker as Marie Antoinette, and Theresa Cabarrus as Ludivine Sagnier.

Napoleon hits cinemas on June 22.
